You’ll find us everyday at 88.9 FM, on the web, in social media and enthusiastically participating in community activities. RadioMilwaukee is public media for a new reality. Our goal is to captivate, entertain, educate and inspire. We champion diversity and encourage community engagement.

RadioMilwaukee is a 501(c)3 organization providing public media services to the greater Milwaukee area and around the world via the Internet. Guided by a board of directors, RadioMilwaukee is supported by members, donors, underwriters, community partners and volunteers.

Our history. Almost a decade ago, our founders came up with the idea to start a public radio station that would feature independent, local and progressive music and bring together Milwaukee’s diverse communities around the musicians and their music. The station was designed to create a positive global and local identity for the Milwaukee region and to attract and retain young talent. RadioMilwaukee became a reality in 2007 with a long-term agreement to independently operate WYMS, the FM station of the Milwaukee Public Schools.

Today, more than 79, 000 young, culturally diverse, tech savvy and socially concerned Milwaukeeans listen to RadioMilwaukee each week, attracted by a distinctive blend of rock and urban music (featuring at least one track by a Milwaukee artist every hour) as well as award-winning, innovative storytelling about our community. RadioMilwaukee is nationally recognized for its innovative approach to public media.

Talk radio flooded with con-fascist war agenda

The Trouble with Talk Radio
A recent article of mine on a public sector scandal, this one in Milwaukee, brought several e-mails from friends and strangers telling me that it was read and discussed on WTMJ-AM in that city by its weekday morning host, Charles Sykes. WTMJ is Milwaukee’s highest rated talk station, and while I appreciated the plug, I was not sure if that is the sort of station that friends of liberty need to be associated with.
That’s because that station, like so many across the U.S., have adopted the pro-war, pro-Bush nationalist format that dominates AM radio today, robbing it of much of the diversity that once characterized it
